Prescription drug abuse has become quite the growing problem. With many individuals abusing these substances after getting prescriptions from their doctors, finding ways of acquiring these medications illegally, or taking them from others who have prescriptions, the abuse of opioid painkillers, benzodiazepines, stimulants, and other such substances negatively affects many people’s lives. Individuals who abuse these drugs often find themselves addicted to them and are met with a number of obstacles when trying to combat a chemical dependency concern of this kind. Many prescription medications are habit-forming and, in some cases, a person can become addicted without being fully aware that this type of problem is manifesting. Others, however, intentionally use prescription medications in order to achieve mind and mood-altering effects and are well aware that their ability to function without the presence of these drugs is hindered.
When a person wishes to break free from this type of substance abuse, fulfilling that mission requires that he or she commit to his or her recovery. This commitment should involve engaging in a treatment program in order to truly heal from an addiction to prescription medication. Within a program that treats substance abuse concerns, people are ultimately able to understand their addiction to prescription medications and move forward with the skills needed to sustain healthy recovery.
At Bayside Marin, we understand the anguish that occurs when an individual is suffering from an addiction to prescription medication. For this reason, and in order to help these people achieve the lives they desire, we are proud to offer the effective treatment that is needed to help individuals with chemical dependency concerns truly heal and recover in a lasting way. Let our staff of compassionate and knowledgeable professionals assist you or someone you care about in coming to realize an existence that is not dictated by the voracious cycle of addiction to drugs and/or alcohol.
Helping a Loved One or Family Member Get Treatment
Whether a person is explicit in sharing the fact that he or she is abusing prescription medications or goes to great lengths to conceal this type of chemical dependency problem, concerned friends or family members who become aware that someone they care about is suffering from an addiction often feel a wide range of emotions. These emotions can include fear, worry, sadness, or overwhelming betrayal if a loved one has been hiding his or her addiction to prescription drugs. And while these feelings and emotions are understandable, they do not negate the issue at hand. Individuals battling an addiction frequently need the support of close friends and family members in order to build up the confidence to face their addiction head-on. Therefore, in order to truly help a loved one in this circumstance and assist him or her in getting the treatment he or she needs in order to overcome an addiction, it is wise to do the following:
- Be open with your loved one about your own feelings, yet also be open to hearing what he or she has to say about his or her abuse of prescription medications.
- Convey, in a compassionate and empathic manner, the need for treatment and offer to assist your loved one in researching treatment options.
- Look into treatment options that are equipped to meet your loved one’s needs and share your findings with him or her.
- Encourage your loved one to schedule a tour or assessment so that the recovery process can begin as soon as possible.
- Once your loved one is engaged in treatment, find out how you can be of assistance during this process.
- Ask your loved one’s treatment providers for referrals for your own support. There are many support groups and other such services available for friends and family members of individuals battling addiction. Partaking in these types of services can ultimately help you cope with this difficult time.
Finally, it is a good idea to remain an unyielding source of support in your loved one’s life. Seeking and getting treatment to overcome an addiction to prescription medication(s) is no easy feat. However, when a person knows that he or she is supported by those who care for him or her most, more positive treatment outcomes are likely to occur.

Continuing Care and Levels of Treatment
At Bayside Marin, we are dedicated to making sure that our clients remain successful in their recovery process long after receiving treatment at our center. To us, this dedication lies in the thorough discharge planning we do and the continuing care options that we offer to our clients and their loved ones.
During the first few days of treatment, our continuing care coordinators meet with clients to begin the process of preparing for discharge. These staff members will also periodically meet with clients during treatment to check in on their progress in order to determine what each client’s needs will be upon leaving Bayside Marin. Detailed discharge packets are created with the input from our clients, and our continuing care coordinators will put forth their best efforts to ensure that the most appropriate referrals are made. Additionally, if any follow-up appointments are needed, these same staff members will schedule them so as to make the discharge process as streamlined and as simple as possible.
Bayside Marin also offers each client and their loved ones 12 months of free continuing care once a client completes his or her treatment. A recovery coach is assigned to each client upon graduating from our residential care and will work with clients and family members to ensure that they are receiving ample support and the resources needed to continue the positive progress made while at Bayside Marin. Any and all services recommended are based on the needs of clients and their loved ones, and each person involved in this after care program is encouraged to adhere to treatment recommendations and update the recovery coach on new concerns so as to prevent relapse and other hindrances in the recovery process.
Yet another facet of continuing care offered by Bayside Marin is the Recovery and Renewal service. This service is for alumni to return to Bayside Marin to rejuvenate the skills needed to help them remain successful in their recovery journeys. Former clients can spend a few days in the program’s milieu and, once again, leave Bayside Marin with the confidence required to remain steadfast on the road towards a healthier lifestyle.
