We recognize that we deal with the problem of drugs and alcohol and their associated medical conditions. The medial providers are certified experts in evaluating and treating those conditions. Also, patients being treated at Bayside Marin treatment program may suffer from other medical problems concurrent with those associated with their dependency problems. The medical providers associated with us are qualified to continue the medical management of these medical diseases and to address new medical conditions when they arise.
The treatment philosophy at Bayside Marin is that suffering unnecessary symptoms during withdrawal from drugs and alcohol will not improve the recovery of the patient. An important function of the medical providers is to provide a safe and comfortable detoxification from drugs and alcohol when indicated. The medical providers will offer medication treatments which will be administered by our nursing staff on site to alleviate the symptoms of withdrawal from drugs such as alcohol, opiates, benzodiapines (including Xanax, Ativan), cocaine, amphetamine and others.
Our medical providers will assist Bayside Marin treatment program in the management of the chronic pain patient. A chronic pain patient will undergo a full medical and pain medication evaluation. The medical providers have many years of experience in the management of chronic pain and chemical dependency. They will discuss with each patient the various options that are available for the management of chronic pain. Whenever possible abstinence from all psychoactive drugs will be our primary goal. The treatment philosophy at Bayside Marin recognizes that medication may be a component of treatment and endorses the American Society of Addiction Medicine Medication Assisted Treatment philosophy. This philosophy recognizes that in certain cases abstinence is not a viable option and that recovery compatible medication assistance will be a component of the patient's recovery plan.
Bayside Marin also recognizes that addiction to nicotine and other tobacco containing products needs to be addressed while the patient is with us. Some people are ready to quit when they are treated, some people are willing to think about quitting while they are being treated and some people are willing to think about thinking about quitting smoking. The medical providers will discuss various stages of smoking and cigarette addiction and where desired will administer the newest and most effective medication management to assist in achieving abstinence from tobacco products.
