Jay Klyman, AMFT
Therapist
Jay Klyman (they/them) is queer, non-binary, disabled and an AMFT. They’re from Chicago and have been in the Bay for seven years.
They have a passion for working with clients with histories of substance use and the crossover with mental illness. They have worked with teenagers for ten years. Since becoming a clinician, Jay has worked with adults and seniors with an enthusiastic focus on family work (chosen or biological)! They’re passionate about working with developmental trauma. They believe that, especially with trauma, trust is built at the speed of relationships.
They believe that a trauma-informed therapeutic relationship is healing, and infuse their work with DBT and Somatics within the frame that we are all impacted by the systems we are a part of. They trust that everyone is capable of change and people are inherently deserving of care. Jay’s masters thesis centered on the effectiveness of group therapy to foster connection and transform relationships.
Jay completed their undergraduate degree at University of Minnesota, majoring in Community Engagement and finished their masters degree at California Institute of Integral Studies with a focus on Community Mental Health.
When they’re not working or in school- they’re hiking with their grouchy dog, watching trashy reality television, organizing or writing poetry.
