Who Is Our PHP Designed For?
The partial hospitalization program at our San Rafael rehab center is specially designed for adults who require a high level of clinical structure but do not need the 24-hour supervision offered in inpatient or residential programs.

What To Expect in Our San Rafael PHP
Clients in our PHP commit to a full-day treatment schedule Monday-Friday from 8 a.m.-3 p.m.
Prior to beginning our PHP, every client receives a thorough assessment that allows us to gather information about their personal history. The results of this assessment are then used to craft an individualized care plan. These care plans can include a number of services, such as:
- Individual therapy: Clients are required to meet with licensed clinicians at least once each week for confidential, one-on-one therapy sessions.
- Group therapy: Group therapy is foundational to programming in our PHP. In addition to traditional talk therapy group sessions, we include experiential activities.
- Medication management services: If clients are taking medication as part of their overall care plan, they can receive medication management services while in our PHP, including monitoring and regimen changes.
Clients in our PHP arrive at our rehab center in the morning and engage in six clinician-led groups throughout the day, weaving evidence-based therapy together with experiential practices that support long-term recovery.

The Client Journey
The client journey for individuals in our PHP is streamlined and straightforward.
Step 1: Intake and Stabilization
You meet with a case manager to walk through programming, attendance expectations, and financial agreements. Together, you identify basic information, including housing, food, transportation, and medical care details, and set an initial discharge date based on clinical needs and insurance authorization. Key appointments are scheduled, including a substance use and recovery session and a comprehensive biopsychosocial assessment.
Step 2: Substance Use and Recovery Counseling Review
With your case manager, you identify the specific substance use concerns you’re struggling with, explore your recovery history, and set personalized goals. This is where integrated recovery planning takes shape.
Step 3: Clinical Assessment and Biopsychosocial Evaluation
Your assigned clinician completes a comprehensive evaluation covering mental health, trauma history, relationships, medical needs, and recovery goals. Stabilization, substance use, and mental health treatment goals merge into one coordinated treatment plan. If clinical needs change along the way, program extensions can be requested at least two weeks in advance of the planned discharge date.
